The weather for Sunday was scheduled for rain and I was in a panic, constantly checking the weather report as I was photographing Leigh and Kristan’s Wedding in the gorgeous Hunter Valley of New South Wales. Kristan and Leigh had decided upon an outdoor ceremony at the gorgeous Sebel at Kirkton Park in Pokolbin, the very last thing we needed that day was the torrential rain which had been forcast! Never the less, I packed up my gear, included some funky umbrellas (which were not waterproof might I add) and took the 2 hour drive to the Hunter Valley. As we were leaving Sydney the heavens opened and began to pour and I began to worry.
Cass and I arrived at the Sebel and found that it hadn’t rained yet. I quickly hurried to get some detail shots of the location just in case it poured down and we were forced indoors for the entire day. Leigh and her bridesmaids were quietly getting their hair and makeup done when I arrived and were as relaxed as any bridal party could be, not even fazed by the potential downpour that might occur, they continued to get ready and enjoy the moment. As soon as I saw Leigh dressed I gasped, she was stunning, one of the most beautiful brides I have ever seen
I loved everything that she had organised for her day, from the shoes, to the dresses, the flowers and the location. Everything was elegant, as I expected it would be.
Meanwhile Kristan and the boys were relaxing in their room with a few beverages. When I arrived they hadn’t even had a shave and a shower, so I ducked out for 10 minutes to take photos of the flower girls and when I returned they were all ready! How they managed to do that I’ll never know, but now I understand why men find us women so frustrating! LOL. Five minutes before the ceremony it looked like it was going to rain, the wedding coordinator for the Sebel made the call to continue as planned even though it had started to spit. As Leigh walked down the isle and Kristan took his first look at his beautiful bride the emotion and the tears began to flow, and the rain stopped, never to return for the rest of the wedding!
After the ceremony we spent some time taking photos around the Sebel and then headed off to find some beautiful vineyards for some intimate portraits. I was more than thrilled when I found the rose garden in full bloom with red roses, it matched my umbrella perfectly and made for one of my most favourite images ever!
I really had a wonderful time at Leigh and Kristan’s Wedding, every person involved in their day was an absolute delight and I felt like I was amongst friends all day long, which makes my job so worthwhile. Leigh and Kristan are so kind, gracious and elegant in everything they do and it was an honour to capture their day.
I have to give Cassandra a big ‘thank you’ for assisting me on this wedding, I could not have managed it without her, she was the perfect assistant and for that I might just keep her employed
As I left the reception feeling very pleased with my day the heavens opened and the rain poured down all the way to Sydney. Now that my friends is what I call fate!
