I am way behind in my blogging this week as I am flat out working on 4 weddings and 2 photo shoots, but I wanted to share that this morning I woke up to a very nice surprise, an email letting me know that one of my photos had won 2nd place in the WPPI 8×10 competition and 2 Accolades of Excellence.
I don’t enter many competitions because basically I don’t have time, and to be honest I don’t go searching for them. But, last year before I went to WPPI in Vegas I sent over 2 prints for their 16×20 Competition and won an Accolade of Excellence and was over the moon with happiness (mostly because my print was hanging next to Jerry Ghionis’s AOE, lol) This year I decided at the last minute to send in a few photos to the 8×10 competition, mostly because one of the prints was about to pass the 2 year mark and I’d never be able to enter it again, so I thought I’d see how it went. The WPPI competitions are the biggest photography awards in the world and are judged by some of the industry’s leaders, so when you enter their competitions you know you are going to get an unbiased mark, which means more to me than winning something in an open competition for professionals and amaturers. This year the competition received a record number of entries, over 1900 so the judging too longer than expected and was probably a bit harder to win so I feel humble today knowing that my prints did so well.
This image of Callie and Brock titled “Make Love Not War” took out 2nd Place in the Children’s category.

This photo of Benjamin titled “Cranky Ben” received an Accolade of Excellence and was scored only one point lower than the photo above

And this photo titled “Jersey Girl” was taken at a Wedding that I did with James Day and received an Accolade of Excellence in the Photojournalism category, scoring the same as the photo above.
