It has been 4 months since I did my last newborn session and I didn’t realise how much I missed it until after I had finished this session for Keighley. During my peak wedding season I had to turn away a lot of newborn sessions as I simply didn’t have the time. But when one of my favourite wedding couples have their fist baby I can’t say no!
You may recognise Kerri and Andrew from their wedding last year in the Hunter Valley, they have been featured everywhere on wedding blogs and in wedding magazines and continue to be 2 of my biggest cheerleaders. I first met Kerri and Andrew through their friends Brook and Ali who just happened to give birth to their second baby Aiden while I was shooting this session for Kerri and Andrew, you can expect to see Aiden on the blog some time in the near future too! The real point to this story is that I love it when a client becomes a friend and continues to support me and my business. Kerri does that by continually sending me new clients and regularly commenting on the blog and facebook which makes me feel so blessed to have people like her in my life.
Keighley’s session was perfect, she slept the entire time and was oblivious to the fact that I was manipulating her 7 day old body into all sorts of poses. I have to give props to Kerri for making this session so easy, when I said that she had to have the house hot, not warm but hot and that Keighley had to be literally drunk on milk she stepped up and did exactly that. There are 3 things that really help in making a newborn session a success, the first and most important factor is that the baby has to be under 10 days old, even better if it is in the first week. The second factor is that the baby has to be warm and comfortable so it won’t mind being naked, the only way to do this is with heating. The third is that she has to be full on milk, not half fed, but full to the brim. Put all these factors together and you will have a successful session every time.
I am looking forward to meeting lots of new babies over the coming winter months, I’ve already got several booked in and hope to be able to try some new poses and props. But for now here are a few of my favourite images of Keighley Grace, I love how she gave me a big grin in the photo with her besotted parents Kerri and Andrew. Enjoy!
