Studio News

As some of you know I am going to be celebrating a rather ‘big’ birthday this August.  Something that starts with a 4 and ends in an 0.  Yes, I will be fabulously forty and fabulously proud.  To celebrate such a momentous occasion my husband and I have decided to do a spot of globe trotting and we should be toasting away my flirty thirties on top of the Eifel Tower in Paris in style!

Given that I’ll be away for so long I thought I should let my wedding clients know that the studio will be closed for all of August and a teeny weeny bit of July as well.  As such next Friday is the last day to finalise wedding album approvals and payments as I will be doing the last album order the following Monday.  There will be no album orders placed between June 20 and September 5th as I can’t guarantee that my housesitter will be available to collect any parcels that arrive via courier in my absence.  Albums ordered by the end of next week will be delivered before the studio closes in July, however all albums placed after the 20th June will not be ordered until after the 5th of September and will have an October delivery date or later.

Since no blog post is complete without a photo here is a recent shot of my Jenny out the front of a gorgeous historic home that I fell in love with while on a recent bike ride.  I wish she would fit into my luggage, I’d look so cute riding her around Tuscany and the South of France!  Don’t you think? ;)

Nicole Landgrebe - so jealous.... you will love your trip, you will love 40 and you so deserve the break..... x x x

Anh - And you look fabulously forty less a few decades! I know you will have an awesome time! I love your bike!!!! I want to steal it! :)

Kim Vernon - You'll look cute no matter what you are doing ;)& I know you'll have a fabulous time :) xxx

Emma Sharkey - Hurrah!! Not jealous much :) Mwah E XX

Beautiful Moments Photography {Sydney Wedding Photography} Jennifer & James Vintage Wedding

When James proposed to Jennifer during the styled shoot for my workshop last year it came as a huge surprise to not only Jennifer but also everyone at the workshop.  Little did we know that the beautifully styled shoot that was the setting for their proposal was only the beginning of what was to come for this beautiful couple.

Jennifer and James married just 8 months after first falling in love with each other after meeting at work.  Their wedding was a beautiful celebration of love, worship and all things vintage.  The ceremony was held in a gorgeous sandstone church in the heart of Newtown which had been transformed into the most elegant tea party, and the reception was held at Jennifer’s father’s home in the Blue Mountains.  As I’ve known Jennifer for a number of years and have photographed her and her family before I fully expected this wedding to be beautiful but I had no idea of the sheer amount of effort that James, Jennifer and their family and friends had been able to put into designing the most amazing details I have ever seen at an Australian wedding.  Jennifer not only designed her own gown but also the gowns of her bridesmaids. I really wish I had an extra hour or two just to cover the details, there were just too many to photograph to be able to do all their hard work justice and the light was certainly against me capturing everything!

While the details of their wedding were extraordinary Jennifer and James’s wedding was really only about love.  The love that they have for each other and the love that their family and friends have for them.  The way everyone pulled together from their respective churches and families was a testament to how loved and highly respected these two people are.  It was truly an honour to photograph this wedding and it made me fall in love with weddings all over again.

Here is just a small sampling of my favourite images of the day.

Gabby - Gorgeous! The one of them in front of the tree with the church in the background is to die for - just stunning!!

Sarah White - So gorgeous, and so special to see these two lovely people happily married after the engagement I got to witness. As always Cathy, your photographs are simple stunning!

Elizabeth Hood - I love everything you do. They are my cousins and I couldn't attend. You have captured everything I would have love to seen. Your photography is amaazing!!!!

Debbie - Cathy, I love them all, but the one that Gabby mentioned with the tree and the building is just amazing! Somehow the scale makes them look like magical elves.

s h e r r y - These are gorgeous!! I love all the details <3

Sidd Rishi - Incredible Photos :) Love the processing here. Love it!!!!

Kerri - Best wedding you have done yet Cathy (including mine). Just beautiful! It plays to all your design sensibilities. A match made in heaven!

Amy-Jo Tatum/Bride C - I love your work. Almost every image looks like it is bathed in white light and I'm curious how you get your images to look so dream-like. It was a gorgeous wedding and you have amazing skill.

Melinda - Absolutely gorgeous! Stunning in fact. I can't believe how much effort was put into their wedding. You must have been in heaven!

Brian - Wow Cathy, Great job, I think you were THE perfect photographer for their wedding! You would have been in heaven with all those details to capture. B>)

Child Photographer Sydney { Beautiful Moments Photography } The Magic of Autumn – Family Photographer Sydney

Autumn is probably my favourite time of the year for family photos.  I always feel more connected to mother earth in Autumn, it’s got a lot to do with my memories of family picnics and garden tours with my mother and grandparents.  I love the beautiful orange and red leaves that hang from the branches of the Elms, Liquidambars and Maples at this time of the year.  I love it so much that every April and May I schedule several sessions in the mountains for family portraits.

This year was probably the best year in a while for colour. I think that has a lot to do with the fact that we had a very wet summer, trees hold their leaves better with wet feet.  Over the last week I’ve been admiring the colours my own garden has been displaying, my Crepe Myrtles in my backyard have never looked so good but then over night with a little bit of rain they are all but empty and my garden floor is now carpeted in yellow and orange.  Timing is everything when it comes to getting the right colour!

My first mountain session was with a really sweet family, Gin and Jeremy and their beautiful children Declan and Tristan.  Jeremy is an amazing chef and Gin isn’t bad in the kitchen either so we decided to start the session off with a morning brunch in my friend Pete’s garden.  Pete was really generous and let us spend 4 hours roaming his property capturing every corner of his magnificent garden.  Pete’s garden reminds me so much of my Grandfather’s garden, I couldn’t help but feel really connected to my childhood memories that day which is perfect considering I was capturing new memories for a lovely family.  I hope that Gin and Jeremy enjoy these family memories as much as I do.

Kerri - WOW! Gob smacked! Amazing colour! Did I say WOW!?

Emma Sharkey - Gorgeous Cathy, beautiful little family amazing work as usual ;) E XXX

Nicole Landgrebe - OHHHHH my beloved blue mountains..... and how you have captured those colours.... what a gorgeous family cathy, they will love these.....

s h e r r y - These are beautiful! <3 LOVE the colours.

Milisa Lin Smith - Um...hello...that's because it GORGEOUS where you are in Autumn!!! Those colors are absolutely amazing!

Bec - Beautiful job Cathy. The colours are amazing, and I'm sure this family loves them :)

Melinda - Cathy these are great photos!! You're very lucky to know Pete and his magic garden. The colours are wonderful. Lovely photos.

Johnathon - Hi Cathy, I'm James' friend from Hurstville. He told me to come look at your site and I am amazed! You are a phenomenal photographer! I'll have to find an excuse to get some photos taken now...

Newborn Photographer Sydney { Beautiful Moments Photography } Chelsea

One of the best things about shooting portrait clients is the relationship you form over the years.  Nearly two years ago I did my first newborn session for this family when now big sister Ashleigh was a few weeks old.  A couple of weeks ago I photographed the newest addition to the family Chelsea Jean.  She was almost the spitting image of her big sister and was an utter dream to photograph, she didn’t wake or flinch once she was asleep which is always a good thing!

We did the shoot on a very cold and wet day in Sydney and while I normally don’t reveal my secrets (ha ha) I can tell you that I was lying outside in a courtyard with the french doors open to where Chelsea was lying in the warmth of 2 heaters.  My cameras and I took one for the team that day!  Talk about suffering for your art!  LOL.  Thankfully the sun came out at one point and I was able to also take some family portraits, we can’t play favourites after all.

Here are just a few of my favourites from Chelsea’s newborn session :)

Claire - Divine as always ...I could sit and look at your photos all day

Kerri - What lucky parents! They have the most beautiful little cherubs! I love Ashleigh's beautiful red hair and Chelsea's gorgeous little lips. Great shooting Cathy, you always capture the most amazing moments!

Chantelle - Wow, they are wonderful photos. You have really captured something special for us. Look forward to seeing them all.

s h e r r y - :) These are SO SO cute!

Family Photographer Sydney { Beautiful Moments Photography } Happy Mother’s Day!

Today we celebrate all the unselfish and loving mother’s all over the world.  Mother’s do such wonderful jobs shaping the lives and minds of the next generation of adults.  Mother’s are not selfish, they are thoughtful, loving, kind and generous with their time and their love.  They sacrifice their own dreams and goals to give their children the very best opportunities in life.   Without Mother’s the world would be a very different place!

With that said, I thought I’d share what my mother-in-law got this year for Mother’s Day.  You see Glenys, my husband’s mother, lives a long way from us and as such she rarely gets to see her boys.  Her boys being Steven and my son Benjamin.  Steven is an only child so I can only imagine how that must feel for her.  I know if one of my children were living on the other side of the country and I could only see them every couple of years it would break my heart.  So what better gift to give Glenys than a beautiful little photo album filled with images of her boys, this way she can carry them wherever she goes.

Whatever you are doing today for Mother’s Day, make sure you give your Mother a call and tell her how much you love her.  Life is short and we should take every opportunity to tell the ones we love how we feel about them.  For me, motherhood is the best job title of all, the love and joy my children have brought me means more than any other career goal ever could.  As for my own Mother, she is the rock upon which I built my life.  Love you Mum!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Bec - Beautiful! Lovely way to showcase the gorgeous shots.

Paige Overturf - Love it!! Very cute and creative!

jenberry - i love it. so personal and meaningful.
